Literacy is a basic need. The more words a child hears, the faster he or she learns language. By listening to stories, children acquire good grammar skills and rich vocabularies. Our volunteers are reading to children, who might not be read to at all or often enough, to ensure that these children are entering kindergarten ready to learn to read.
